While there is and or has been some fluctuations within the hosted domain names at A Small Orange, they normally recoup within one-two months. This typically happens when customers cancel their hosting packages, go out of business or a plethora of other reasons.

So here's what we think...

A Small Orange might be a “small” web hosting provider, but this small web hosting provider has two datacenters, and a dedicated and loyal customer base. Founded in 2003 A Small Orange has become a web hosting provider that is reliable not only because if their superior customer service, but also because of their near perfect uptime.

A Small Orange is a web hosting company that is just large enough to be a reliable web hosting partner in your online business, but just small enough not to be a machine that sees every customer as just another number on the balance sheet. To that end, you’ll even find that A Small Orange provide non-profits and charities with a 10% ongoing discount or a free “small plan”.

Reliability:

When choosing any web hosting provider, we agree with you that reliability is incredibly important. This is why, we’ve decided to dig into A Small Orange and see what’s under the bonnet, as they typically like to disclose this information on their website.

What we’ve found is that they are a web hosting provider is serious about how it handles your data. As such, their servers are packed with memory, SSD (solid state drives), and the latest in I/O optimization technologies to ensure maximum performance for your web hosting account. Not mentioning that their entire service is covered by a 90-day money back guarantee should you be unhappy.

When it comes to features, A Small Orange will literally blow your mind. All their shared hosting plans come with a daily backup service, SSD (Solid State Drives) driven environment, cPanel as a control panel and much more. There is literally nothing that you would need starting a website that isn’t already included in their web hosting packages.

Ok, perhaps if you’re looking at doing an E-Commerce website, you might need a dedicated IP address and a SSL certificate, but apart from that there is literally nothing else that’s needed on a typical web hosting account.

Support:

Support is one of the most important factors in our eyes when we suggest web hosting providers, to the point that we almost were not going to include A Small Orange in this website due to their lackadaisical approach to support. However, in the last couple of years, we’ve seen a huge change in their commitment in providing reliable and stable web hosting support.

Their newly staffed support team is available 24/7/365 via phone and ticketing system, and when we say 24/7/365 we really do mean that they are there, we’ve even tested them ourselves. They also have a community forum, and many other support resources that provide superior customer service to their clients.

Pricing:

A Small Orange has never been an inexpensive web hosting provider. However, they have really made at attempt recently to ensure that they provide industry average pricing across their web hosting services. However, it’s commonly said that you get what you pay for and their service is of excellent quality, so we expect their pricing to be within reason and for it to stay that way.

User Friendliness:

A Small Orange web hosting account is like taking a new gadet out of the box for the first time, it’s packed with features, options and everything is easy, quick and hassle free. I agree with quite a few of the reviews that are posted here, they state; stay away from ASO... I have to unfortunately agree with many of them. As a web developer this pains me to say, but the reality is that if their offline.. its not gonna help me build my business or that of my web hosting customers. They are currently offline for at least 5 to 20 mins per day and that's quite annoying and complicated for me to deal with. I had requested that I was moved to a different server, which they kindly did... but that didn't help me either... so not sure if I should just pack it in and move somewhere else or what I should be doing here?!

As a web developer, about 6 years ago when I initially started with A Small Orange, there wasn't a better performing web hosting provider in the market. I had moved all most of my clients to A Small Orange from many other web hosting companies.. Over a year ago all the clients that I had moved over (which was virtually all of them) started to experience email problems, either it was because they were flooded with spam messages, or they were having IMAP issues... the problem wasn't resolved, no matter how many times I contacted support. Over and over the issue persisted, no matter what they did, no matter what server I was moved to. I was faced the music and had to move the clients back to other web hosting providers... which lost me some clients and cost me over $2,000 in non-billable time.

I'm with ASO for 3 - 4 years now, so far they are the most impressive web hosting provider that I've been with like forever. I advise all developers that I work with to switch over to ASO, that's because they will help you with any missing modules or extensions your missing and help you as much as possible if your stuck.

A Small Orange is probably the best hosting provider that I've used since switching from HostGator. The only reason why I left HostGator was because they totally refused to be a professional shop. They deleted all my data and said that It was my fault for them being unable to do something normal. I don't really know what to say. However, ASmallOrange.com helped me get my new website setup and whatever data I had left uploaded to the website. Its finally fully online.

I have changed my web hosting to ASmallOrange.com and the entire process was handled by ASO, literally. I didn't have to do anything, apart from give my blessing to make the changes in DNS. Admin panel, email, ping, disk space, bandwidth, they are all performing at their peak. I love them! They are robust enough to put up with meeeee!!

Their uptime scores is a real big fat lie, they don't have uptime anywhere near 99% in fact, I'd be shocked if they even touch 90% uptime. Their service becomes unresponsive at least once a week... and their status system says that the server is OK, not sure what's OK, but... maybe the page doesn't even use real data? SSH, PING, FTP, HTTP, all go down... then a few mins later, all is back online. This normally happens at least once a week... so its been quite an annoying process. If I didn't have all my money spent on this hosting account, and being outside of my refund policy, I would have left already.

I have been very satirized with ASO web hosting account. I host 5 different sites under my account and for all of them, I pay less than $45 a month. The support has been superb to-date and they have always been more than willing to help me out with any questions I have. This is a solid and extremely reliable web hosting provider.

When I originally joined A Small Orange, they had superb uptime and it was a company that couldn't be beat in any respect, no matter what/who you choose. I couldn't stop singing their praises or thanking the lord for helping me find a web hosting company that was... but then it was short lived. The outages started... I was hit with site affecting outages that couldn't keep everything online.... It took me 13+ hours to get a hold of support and when I did get a hold of support... they couldn't answer any of my questions.

I have been using ASmallOrange for over 8 years now, and joined in 2010. At the the time it was being run by a couple of guys called Lighter and Armstrong, and the service was really spectacular... the service never shuddered once, it was always online, stable and reliable. Now the management changed and while the service has started to improve, I feel like their growth pains have also started... as the server that Im on, seems more laggy, more bogged down... and less rapid. I guess its because they started to make money, rather than running something for the sake of fun. I was happy that the management changed, now the management has changed again... so not really sure. Lets see what the future holds.

ASO started out as an amazing web hosting service, filled with kick ass features, and options. However, the management changed... which saw some of that stuff vanish. However they did keep the 99.9% uptime promise that if they fall below that, I've had to use it once.. and got a free month! So you can't say that they didn't honor their words. So its a reason more to stick with them.

I've dealt with a lot of complicated situations in my life, having a bad web hosting provider wasn't going to be one of them. As a result, I made the switch from my old web hosting provider and choose ASO. Granted, they are a bit more expensive than the avg web host, with less resources, but their also better than the avg host with uptime and resource availability.

I have been using ASO services for about a month now, found that their services are really stable and awesome. Tickets typically get answered within 15 mins and the reply doesn't end up in the spam folder! Which is most helpful!
