Is it possible to have folder/file permissions of 777?

When it comes to permission levels, you will need to make sure that only in the most needed cases are permissions raised to 777, as that can possibly open up security holes should the script be vulnerable within your web hosting account.

Please make sure you don’t set actual php files permission levels of 777, as they will cause errors (Internal Error 500) due to of the way that suEXEC is set up within our web hosting servers.
