Secure FTP, or more commonly known as sFTP, was developed originally to ensure that data being transmitted between two or more locations (such as from your PC to your web hosting account) was encrypted. Below, we describe two possible ways of transferring data securely:
- Secure FTP Method One: FTP-SSL
The above-mentioned method will require that you already have a dedicated IP address and a valid SSL certificate installed within your web hosting account to be able to function correctly (without errors).
- Secure FTP Method Two: FTP-SSH
Alternatively, you will be able to connect to FTP using SSH (Secure Shell). Secure Shell creates a tunnel much like the FTP-SSL variant. However, instead of all the encryption being down via the browser, all the encryption is handled by the SSH server within your web hosting account.
