I had 2checkout running perfectly for 1 year. Then all of a sudden their system stopped passing back values to my script. They also changed the amount of characters on the secret word without telling us. I have submitted numerous support tickets, most of the reply's were "you wouldn't have to wait so long if you just search through the support forums" but now I did search through them and still couldn't find my answer (after 4 hours). So i submitted a ticket again, that was on Aug. 14, 2003 today is Sept 22, 2003 and still no response. They also do not offer and phone support. If you need a quick setup for credit cards on your website they are fast, but once you have any problems don't expect any help. These guys are a joke (Actually a reseller) I don't recommend their services at all. STAY AWAY!!!!. |

Inadequate Level of Service in 2003. - 2003-12-20

After nearly three years of experience using 2checkout.com, we have dropped it in favor of our own merchant account. Through 2001-2002, their service was acceptable. In 2003, however, their service declined until it was unusable: the gateway was down frequently..sometimes for days at a time...and 2co would not respond to emails, phone calls, FAXes, or any other communication from us. The poor service from 2co was only provided 8/5 (if you can get it), and the service we need to do business is 24/7. Our new gateway provider (NOVA ViaKlix) provides the 24/7 level of service, gives us mail order processing ability, and also gives us dial-up voice authorizations as a backup to the web. Our conclusion: serious businesses need their own merchant account: it's cheaper and it WORKS!! The rating given applies to 2co during our last year with them: 2003. |

I'm not surprised at all to see the horrible reviews online about 2Checkout.com. I worked for them but would like to remain anonymous, so I won't tell you how long I was employed. I WILL tell you that they are a joke, but you probably already know this.
The customer service manager that was in charge is a DRUNK who smokes pot and drinks nearly 7 days @ week. She was involved in a "secret" romance with another employee and they both ended up getting fired eventually.
The owner and his materialistic wife is interested in only MONEY. They had the opportunity to create a fantastic company that would put a HUGE dent in Paypal and other similiar companies, but they screwed up from the very start.
What advantage does 2CO have over others you can sign up with? There is NONE! Their fees are MORE. The customer service is a joke. That Neva Johnson who works in fraud is a B**** who doesn't do her job. Everything from their website to the way they do business if FULL of problems. I have been with 2CO for 2 1/2 years now. They have always been a bit slow with support, but they do have phone support and tickets are usually answered within 24 to 48 hours. My complaints are mostly recent as they seem to have been "busted" by Master Card for trying to appear like a credit card processor when (unbeknownst to most customers) they were really a reseller. Funny that a "reseller" gives customer refunds against the vendors will (for non-guaranteed items) and then charges me $29 as a chargeback fee. I have called them on this in the past and they have always led me to believe that this was a CC company charge that they passed along. Now I find that it is 2CO that does it and tells vendors that it is the card company. In the last month they have had to change their whole system and software to what they call V2 (version 2). This "improvement" has caused more headaches than I will define but payments to me have begun to lag. My last payment was short $1020.00 and their explanation sounds like "blah blah blah", with nothing like: "so here is your money" or an apology anywhere at the end of it. I have waited nine days lately for answers to problem "tickets". When filing a ticket it is not uncommon for me to give a detailed description of a problem, wait several days, limping along and for them to answser back something like: "well that shouldn't be happening" but no resolution or suggestions. Also pending orders (between being made and being funded to my "awaiting deposit" account have just changed from a 2 day lag to a 5 or 6 day lag. This may not sound like much but when a company does 200 million per year, an extra 3 or 4 days interest for them is hundreds of thousands of dollars per year. In my suspicious opinion this is intentional and is a form of theft. Lastly, some of my customers are now telling me that they can't get 2CO to accept perfectly good credit cards. 2CO considers an IP address that is different from the CC billing address to be a "strong indicator of fraud" and gives it a "point" value toward denying processing service. In todays internet, I would say that fully 50% of all my customers have a billing address that doesn't match the zip code for their IP service. 2CO considers this "two strikes" and from then on, any "i" not dotted or "t" not crossed on the CC info and they bounce one legitimate order after another. I am tired of them and looking for other options. Cheap isn't always cheap and like some other reviewers, I have found that when I was new and doing a few hundred dollars per month, a Mickey Mouse CC solution was one thing. When you have a real business they become an unacceptable source of problems and stress. |

I started using 2CheckOut more than 2 years ago. The customer service has never been good, but it was not too bad. The quality of service becomes horrible recently -- it would be insane for me to depend further on 2CheckOut.
There are many changes at 2CheckOut within the last few months. Instead of explaining the changes, 2CheckOut sends out incomprehensible messages. For example, many people receive a generic message saying their site is non-compliant without a single detail of what it means. In my case, it was an innocent adverb that their reviewers didn't like. 2CheckOut never communicates well with their clients, and they keep an attitude that all problems are those of their clients, even when 2CheckOut's changes are the major source of the problems.
2CheckOut can change their rules at will, without even telling you about the rule change, then yelling at you for not complying with the change. They particularly like to tell you to stop using their service if you don't like their change! (and of course after they collect your $50 application fee). One of my two accounts was terminated, and it was hopeless to even think about getting whatever fund was in the account at the time of termination. 2CheckOut does not give me even a simplest explaination about what they do with the money. I presume they return it to my clients, though they could as well keep it for themselves. None of my clients ever tells me that they were refunded back.
I still have an account with 2CheckOut as a back up. Well, I paid them the $50 and they are not going to refund me back the fee. I'm much happier with my own merchant account I just set up. I suddently realize that 2CheckOut has become more of a problem than a solution for me -- and at twice the cost comparing to using my merchant account.
Perhaps for tiny business, 2CheckOut is a solution. But it is probably not a very dependable one. |

On 3/16/2005 they say that we need to do a review. Were they sleeping for an entire month (since the last time I got a payment from them) that right when I'm supposed to get my money they decide to do a fraud review?

Refusal to wire to my bank account - 2005-06-01

I have sign up for 2checkout last year. Last year, when I used it for payment processing, everything will ok. Ticket that will submitted will responded in an acceptable amount of time (though not great). However, recently, after not using it for half a year, I decided to use it again. My customer made a payment to me and on the 16th of May, I logged in to see when money will be wired to my bank account and it stated that my account balance is $0. Happily, I thought that they had proceeded with the bank transfer.
After waiting for 1 week, I noticed that no money was transferred. I submitted a helpdesk ticket to enquire about the wire transfer. After 4 days, no response what so ever. I then make a call to the helpdesk. The helpdesk officer that I spoked to mentioned that the 2checkout had made a call to me on this matter and I told him that I did not received any call from 2checkout at all. He then informed me to email risk@2checkout.com to enquire about this bank wire. I did accordingly.
1 day later, I recieved an email from Neva to inform that payment cannot be released until they can confirmed that the buyer has received the good. I replied and provided them with the contact number of the buyer. I also offered to provide the UPS tracking number for the delivery. It has been 4 days since then and I have not received any response from them.
Hence, 2checkout is not recommended! Don't used them at all, if you can.

I know, sounds a bit unbelievable.
However, I had a lot of fraud and of course all of those end up as "Passed 2CO fraud review". After several months they all end up fraudlent so I had about 165 US$ of chargeback fees (11 chargebacks). Then I took fraud check into my own hands and tried to refund all the sales that I found fraudlent. Didnt work. Yet to say, it worked but they collected their commisions since they billed those ccs and then they refunded them. At least I cut down chargebacks.
Therefore I have end up about -300 US$ on my account, but had some of the recurring frauders (they have already found out that 2CO is the great place for fraud) do after 6 months not using 2CO my account is now -650 US$. Hillarious isnt it?
I still have about US$50 reccuring billing that is not fraudlent on that account, but my debt is increasing... althouhg I do not market my link anymore...
User support is equal to zero and they are VERY SORRY that I got stood up.
To say: I am a web hosting provider, one of top 15 in my homeland and made a wrong excursion to world market. Now I am searching for realible partner to help me recieve payments from abroad.

complete and utter shambles - 2005-09-24

We had worked with Worldpay in the UK for 5 years and have been 100% satisfied with their service. Never had a problem. But WP don't support Dubai, UAE, so our new company was forced to look for a quick option that we could use here. 2checkout seemed to fit the bill. Quick setup and although the fees per transaction were considerably more than WP, there was no yearly fee just a 49 USD signup fee.
Ran a few test orders once our site was integrated and all seemed well. We then had a custom purchase some software from us for over 3700 bucks. Excellent, our first order.
Although the sale showed up when I searcheed for sales, it did not show up under payments. Our account balance showed a big line of zeros.
So I though maybe it would show up when they actually charged the card (as only authorized initially). But it did not. Two days after the order, the fraudcheck has passed successfully, but still our balance shows zeros.
At this point, I'm a little concerned and post a support request asking why. I've read their FAQ which states that once a transaction is marked as 'pending' the funds are in your account. This transaction was marked as pending, but our account balance still shows zeros.
One day later, my support ticket has not be answered. It is now 3 days after the order, and still our account balance is zero. Now I'm getting a bit annoyed. Not only have 2checkout billed the card and got my customer's money. They seem to have pocketed it and the account balance doesn't show it, and they're not talking to me now.
I post a follow up. At this point I'm starting to get annoyed as they appear to have gone rather quiet now they have 3700 USD of our money. A sharp contrast to their helpful tech responses before this payment.
So I give them a call. The guy tells me that it will definitely show up by end of today. Hmmmm. Sounds like "the cheque is in the post". So I get up the next day and check the account balance. Guess what? Still a big line of zeros.
At this point, I'm beginning to smell a rat with 2co. They've now had 3700 bucks of our customer's (ie. OUR) money and they're blowing smoke about why they don't show this on our account yet. Eventually I get a reply to the ticket and follow ups saying that the balance will show just before payment, defintely by 30th. That is 10 days after the order. What kind of an outfit is this? I point out that this is the computer age. They don't fill in our account balance in a big leather-bound book with a quill pen. It shouldn't take 10 days to show a payment in our account balance, there is no reason on earth they can't do this as soon as they get the payment.
The ticket gets passed to the 'verification' department. So far I've been told it will show in our account "today" (23rd) and also "by the 30th". Two people with different answers - doesn't fill you with confidence. Now I get a response from the verification department. Funds take 2-5 days to show in account balance, therefore I should definitely see the funds by tomorrow (25th).
Well, maybe I will maybe I won't. I suspect I won't. I did a bit of googling and have found many people discussing problems with 2co, pretty much all to do with 2checkout keeping money and not paying out.
If the funds don't show by tomorrow, then I'll refund the card and get the customer to pay another way. I'm fed up of being lied to and told different things by everybody I contact as 2co. If this company aren't actually dishonest, then at best they are terminally incompetent and a complete and utter shambles. You will end up fighting them for your money and dealing with their support staff who will all give you different answers to the same simple questions.
Your choice may be limited, but don't use 2checkout unless you enjoy having your funds misappropriated. If it is this hard to get them to show the balance on our account, imagine what it's going to be like to try to get them to actually pay us? |

2checkout or "2CO" as they like to call themselves has been holding the amount of $12,861.92 for over 6 months now, when I questioned them, their response was....
"It appears that your account is still in our verifications process. All new accounts, and accounts that process over 300.00 for the first time, will be subjected to our account verification process. This process is typically done through voice verification with the end user of the service or product. While this process is usually seamless, difficulty in verifying the legitimacy and status of your account can result in the delay of your initial payments."
Now I just received an email from them 4 days ago saying they over paid me and that I have the choice of sending them a check or having them automatically take it out of the $12,861.92..
And "supposedly" I cannot do anything about this because their contract says "you will not hold 2co harmless for any losses associated with your account."
So there is my story, would I recommend them? NO, NOT EVEN TO MY WORST ENEMY!!
Will I go out of my way to make sure no one else has the same problem I have had? YES! |
