I use Alertra to check basick URL connectivity to make sure my website stays up. You can sign up for a free one month trial to take their services for a test drive. Alerting can be done via email, SMS, phone call, pager. It can monitor many other TCP protocols such as FTP, Telnet, DNS, IMAP, NNTP etc. What I also like is you can set up a maintenance schedule for server outages, reboots, etc This keeps your pager from crying wolf in the middle of the night. The website is clean, easy to navigate and meets your basic needs. They will also help you write a more robust monitoring script to test deeper functionality if you like. Reports are good and you can run SLA up time reports for your clients. Overall I give them an A. One thing I would like them to add is notification to AOL Instant Messenger. Would be nice if they accepted Paypal as well, as getting out the credit card is a pain. |
